NYUB Top 10 - 2005 / NYUB.TV Update / Quick wrap-up
With all the frenetic top 10 album / artist / single bollocks going on this month it's only fair that I put my 2p in. I'm not even going to try and justify why I've picked the following 10 albums as I'd rather avoid a whole indie-wank debate so here you go:
- Isolee - We are monster
- Clor - Cor
- The National - Alligator
- LCD Soundsystem - LCD Soundsystem
- Franz Ferdinand - You Could Have it So Much Better with Franz Ferdinand
- Patrick Wolf - Wind in the Wires
- The Boy Least Likely To - The Best Party Ever
- Sigur Ros - Takk...
- Ladytron - Witching Hour
- Boards of Canada - Campfire Headphase
So...no Girls Aloud, no Arctic Monkeys and no Sufjan Stevens (Seven Swans was better than Illinoise).
Also a quick update on NYUB.TV. I have all the material lined up but no time to slice and dice it into a proper video so it will have to wait until the end of January. I'm still not quite convinced that it's going to 'scale' as it's looking like a HELL of a lot of work.
There's one more NYUB coming out before the end of the year. It'll be released on Friday for all you lucky little bastards out there.
Thank you to everyone for making this a very, very special year. I started this little podcast back in January and I managed to scrape together about 90 listeners per show and almost a year later it's averaging about 7,000+ unique downloads per show. My aim was to create one of the best independent music podcasts showcasing the most ecclectic material that's legitimately available out there all served up with the chat and bullshit minimised. I hope I've succeeded.

Hark! Songs for Christmas by Mr Sufjan Stevens!

Holy, holy etc......I stumbled upon some old Sufjan christmas carols. My favourite has to be 'Come on! Let's boogey to the Elf Dance!'. Priceless. Many thanks to Irresponsible Journalism.

NME 2005 Top 50 Albums Scam
![]()
Toilet paper anyone?I've grown tired of the NME. It's now simply a sensationalist music tabloid with little integrity. Londonist reports the the apparent rigging of the NME top 50. They've supposedly carried out a vote in poll but it appears that the results have been tweaked. Mr Kate Moss has been lifted up the rankings (he's the coolest cat in London according to NME, don't you know? Wish I had a crack habit like him) and other dodgy bands have been manipulated. Boycott the damn thing and get your UK music news from people with their ear on the ground. Visit Drowned in Sound in the meantime until I do a full in-depth post on the UK Music blogging scene next week.
Looks like Londonist have 'pulled' the NME story after being contacted by them. I'm still keeping this post up in the meantime. Maybe they'll contact me? I guess I'm not cool enough since I don't have a crack habit.
