"Hey you! Look, I'm blowing Dave Grohl!"

Righto. I'm back from my little U.S jaunt. I'll be working on NYUB #26 and a few other side projects this week but in the meantime, you can keep yourselves entertained with a caption contest. The photo above was taken in Newport at the errorplains gig and features Chris Error and a random audience punter. Submit your favourite caption by clicking on the comment button. Best caption receives Chris Error's trousers from the night.
The Errorplains in Big Fuck-off London Gig
The Errorplains, the hugely tipped East London electro-punk outfit, played to a full capacity crowd at the Shoreditch Spread Eagle last weekend. The event was a warm-up exercise for the launch of their new single next month. Support was provided by Miss Anna Kronist and Scarlette O'Harlette from the world famous Burly Q Revue.
NYUB has been given permission to play a very exclusive remix of the new errorplains track. Stay tuned!

Playlist - The iPod Club Night (London & Philadelphia)
![]()
Those little white things...you know?Following in the footsteps of EDM, the Playlist club night in London
and Philadelphia allows you to bring in your own iPod and spin some
tunes on the electronic wheels of steel. Submit the details of your own
15 minute set beforehand via e-mail and then turn up on the night to
play it to the crowds. Some notably ecclectic sets have been played in the past and I'm definitely going to turn up to one of these very soon.
Interpol @ Brixton Academy - April 9th
![]()
Carlos and Paul spot a cloud that looks like Ian CurtisProbably one of my favourite acts to emerge from NYC over the last few
years decided to once again tour London. The first time being a support
slot for Japanese electronic experimentalists Cornelius way back in
2002 which I attended. I didn't have a clue who Interpol were at the
time and they certainly left no impression on myself or my friends who
attended. The sound was weak and the gentleman in the black suits,
white shirts and skinny black ties seemed very unassured of themselves.
A few months later 'Turn on the Bright Lights' was released when I was
still in bondage at HMV Bond Street, running the electronic music
section. One of my colleagues decided to throw 'NYC' on the DAT and I
quickly purchased the album the following day.
Fast forward 3 years and the same gentlemen have hit the big time.
'Turn on the Bright Light's ended up selling 2,000,000 units and
'Antics' isn't in bad shape either. We trundled into the Brixton fairly
early on in the evening, wary of the shooting that had occured there 3
weeks prior (the bullets are still in the ceiling apparently).
Nevertheless, that didn't stop me from successfully attempting to
smuggle in half a bottle of Jack Daniel's to keep us company during the
evening. Overall, the songs were tight and fast and there was no
mucking about. Paul's not one for much banter and most of the dialogue
consisted of 'thankyou', 'thankyou very much', and ' thankyou to
M83 for playing support' which was consistent with the brief
conversation I had with him at Glastonbury 2003 outside the main dance
tent when he was teetering on the edge of a narcotics induced collapse.
Seriously, the man was not in good shape. I guess it didn't help that
he was still wearing his black suit in 30 degree heat. The sound
quality overall was the best I've heard for any act playing that venue
and it reinforces my belief that a lot of support acts just get a bum
deal with the crap equipment they can afford or are given for their
support slots. It was still very strange to see hundreds of people
mouthing the words ' Stella I love you'. Anyways, a great gig,
particularly after some of the average acts I've been to recently.
Eric Clapton to headline Glastonbury?
Clapped OutThere are strong rumours swirling around that Eric Clapton will be headlining the usually massive Glastonbury festival in 2007. From what I've seen on the UK music message boards, the overall response to this news has not been great. As one wit put it:
'He's like the friend you don't really like but he keeps turning up everywhere and annoying you, but you don't have the heart to tell him to fuck off 'cos his kid died... '
We at NYUB won't be doing that, however, we will be avoiding the main stage when he's on.
Boy Least Likely To - Playing FREE at Rough Trade London
![]()
A very likely free gigThe chaps at Rough Trade Record Store are once again making sure you get to see some quality independent artists play for free in their little shop. Boy Least Likely To is playing this Saturday at 2pm. Check him out before you’re forced to pay an eBay tout later in the year.
Saw them on Saturday and they were great.
The Arcade Fire Sell out in a Day
![]()
Give me a ticket!Fucking bloody hell. I can't seem to get any tickets lately. My
favourite Canadian band finally decides to come to town and I miss out
AGAIN. Grrr....a quick ebay UK tout scan(tm) came up with nothing so I
can't point the fingers at those cretins (yet).
Meanwhile you can all get your arcade fire fix here.
p.s I'm an angry man. :-(
Tickets are now available on TicketWeb for £9. They're playing at ULU - a larger capacity venue. Still crap because I'm going to be in the US when that gig is on. Oh well.
You be the DJ
I'm all for empowering people with music. 'Everyone deserves music'
is a new club night in London where YOU send in your mix and they'll
play it on the night to the crowds. Great idea. Gotta dig out those old Barry Manilow records....
Queens of the Stone Age and Touts of the Modern Age
Tried to get tickets to a QOTSA gig at the Camden Koko / Underworld this morning. Spent 45 minutes multi-tasking 3 websites and two direct dial lines with little avail. Tickets were going for £19 and are now available on eBay for the wonderful price of £175 for two! Ahh the joys of a modern market economy.
I love touts - you love 'em too?
They're now up to 202 pounds. Wonderful
